After A Train Hits A Patrol Car With A Handcuffed 20-year-old Woman, Two Colorado Police Officers Are Charged

On Monday, a municipal prosecutor in Colorado announced the filing of charges against two police officers in connection with an event that occurred in September. The incident involved a train colliding with a patrol car that had a lady who was restrained inside.

After the incident that left a 20-year-old woman with serious injuries, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office announced that Officer Jordan Steinke of the Fort Lupton Police Department faces two felony charges and Officer Pablo Vazquez of the Platteville Police Department faces multiple misdemeanour charges. Both officers work for their respective departments’ police departments.

Yardeni Rios-Gonzalez, age 20, was pulled over by Vazquez on September 16 in connection with a road rage incident with a firearm that was reported earlier that day near Platteville, Colorado, some 40 miles north of Denver. The incident occurred earlier that day.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Rios-Gonzalez came to a stop in her vehicle soon after passing a set of train tracks, and Vazquez parked his patrol car behind her on the tracks. Both of their vehicles were on the tracks.

A search of Rios-vehicle Gonzalez’s was assisted by two officers from the Fort Lupton Police Department, including Steinke, who arrived to lend a hand. Rios-Gonzalez was taken inside the patrol car driven by Vazquez, which was parked on the tracks, after being placed in handcuffs by Steinke.

After then, a train arrived.

The terrifying scene was filmed by body cameras worn by the officers. As the police searched Rios-vehicle, Gonzalez’s the sound of the train drawing nearer could be heard. The cops become aware of it just in time to avoid the collision with the cruiser. According to the CBI, Rios-Gonzalez endured critical injuries but was able to survive them.

The crash was looked into by the CBI along with numerous other agencies.

In addition to a charge of misdemeanour reckless endangerment, the District Attorney’s Office in Weld County, Colorado, has filed felony counts against Steinke for attempted manslaughter and assault in the second degree.

According to the office of the district attorney, summonses were sent to the cops and Rios-Gonzalez, but they were not arrested. On Tuesday, it was unclear whether any of the officers had retained legal representation.

Tuesday, inquiries into Steinke and Vazquez’s employment status at the police departments in Fort Lupton and Platteville did not receive an instant response from either of those departments.
