Massachusett’s Governor Charlie Baker To Excuse Himself From A Possible Third-Term Election

On Wednesday in a public announcement, the Governor of Massachusetts shared with its people that he would not be contesting for the upcoming elections, which could potentially have been his third term in the office.

He further stated that it was not an easy decision to arrive at, however, he and Governor Karen Polito will not be seeking re-election. “We love the work,” he said. “Serving as Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts has been the most challenging and fulfilling jobs we’ve ever had.”

The 65-year-old Republican, Baker said that he thinks the best utilization of the talents of the duo can steer the state better, when they are working for the people, and not worrying about re-elections and its campaigning.

Talking about the focus that is required, he said, “This next year needs to be about recovery, not about politics,”

This has left a wide door open for newer candidates, who shall be fighting tooth and nail to grab the seat. The likes of former State Rep. Geoff Diehl have already announced that they are in the running as a Republican for the post.

From across the bench, three democrats have also shared their inclinations to run for Governor, namely state Sen. Sonia Chang-Díaz, Harvard professor Danielle Allen and former state Sen. Ben Downing. People and party persons also await, the announcement of prominent Democratic elected official, Attorney General Maura Healey, whether she will enter the race.
