Kraven the Hunter in August 2018, and in March 2019, Sony confirmed that the movie was in production. Surprisingly, director Ryan Coogler had planned to include Kraven in his MCU blockbuster Black Panther before discovering that Sony controlled the character’s movie rights.
Kraven will thus get a well-deserved introduction to Sony’s shared superhero universe in the upcoming film. The storyline of the movie centers around Sergei Kravinoff, a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter.
The specifics of the movie’s plot haven’t been made public yet, but it will follow the path meticulously paved before it by the comics of the same name, first published by Marvel, and follow Kraven’s journey as he strives to become the world’s apex predator and most powerful hunter.
In addition to showing Kraven chasing down large animals like lions and a very distinctive-looking Rhino, the rampaging nemesis from the original comic books, the red band trailer for the movie hinted at a little rougher edge than that of Venom and Morbius, the other movies set in the Spider-Man universe.
Kraven often pursues Spider-Man, but given that we haven’t actually seen the Web-Head in his own world of films, the likelihood of us ever seeing Peter Parker or Miles Morales seems remote at this time. The race to the next Labor Day is critical as star Taylor-Johnson will have to participate in a global publicity tour to launch the visceral action film in just over two months.
Kraven the Hunter Cast
Sony contacted famous people including Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, John David Washington, and Adam Driver to play the role of Kraven. However, after being awestruck by the first trailer for the film Bullet Train, the filmmakers quickly opted to cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Taylor-Johnson consented to take on the role of Kraven in other films that would follow Kraven the Hunter. He is most recognized for his roles as Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron and the title character in Kick-Ass and its follow-up.

Calypso was rumoured to be played by Jodie Turner-Smith at first, but in March 2022 it was revealed that Academy Award–winning actress Ariana DeBose would take over the part. She is a voodoo priestess who employs magic potions and Kraven’s love interest.
Calypso is frequently featured as Spider-Man’s enemy in Marvel Comics. The romantic bond between the two will likely be covered by the filmmakers, as fans can expect. DeBose’s portrayal of Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story won her a ton of praise.
Additionally, she portrayed Emma Tate in the Apple TV+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon! as well as Alyssa Greene in Ryan Murphy’s musical film The Prom. The classic Spider-Man villain the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola, will be the major antagonist of the movie.
