The 29-year-old Nope star has finally spoken out about the tension that developed between her and Darius Jackson in late July after he publicly criticized the outfit she wore to Usher’s Las Vegas concert. Keke Palmer and Usher won’t quit stirring the pot. Following some turmoil with the actress’ claimed ex-boyfriend, Darius Jackson, the two stars have launched the music video for the R&B legend’s new song “Boyfriend,” after 24 hours of teasers.
Palmer is shown beaming in the Wednesday, August 16, music video enjoying a night out with her pals and hanging out with Usher, who makes fun of her in the song’s lyrics: It’s wonderful that your lover might be seeking for me, and he should know that finding me is simple. He should just look for me anywhere he sees you.
The video pauses midway through to show the Nope star and her female friends listening to Usher’s 2001 hit song “U Remind Me” in an elevator.
The film then transitions to Palmer waking up in bed to accept a FaceTime call from (guess who?) Usher after a classy dance break at a casino, which Palmer leads. Palmer lights up onscreen.
With Jackson, with whom Palmer has a six-month-old baby, the sarcastic line makes fun of Jackson. Last month, Jackson took to Twitter to call out Palmer for a sheer outfit she wore to Usher’s Las Vegas concert, lamenting:
“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”
Jackson shared a video of Usher and Palmer dancing during the show and added the following now-deleted tweet: “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.”
Since then, neither Palmer nor Jackson has made any statements about their relationship. Regardless, Palmer appears to be having the time of her life. After the music video dropped, she thanked Usher on Instagram for “encouraging me and seeing me as the entertainer I am.”
“I know I’m a gUrL but when I watched your videos, I never wanted to be the girl in them, I wanted to be YOU,” she added in her post. “Thank you for making a dream come true.”
