Jennifer Aniston was one of Matthew Perry’s co-stars on Friends who tried to help him with his drinking problem.
In a trailer for his Oct. 28 interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News, Perry talks about the time when Aniston, whom he calls “Jenny,” confronted him about his problem. She told Perry that Sawyer had said, “We know you’re drinking.”
Perry said that it did happen. “Just think about how scary that was,” he said. “You know, she was the one who tried to help the most. I’m so thankful to her for doing that.”

Perry has been completely transparent about his battles with substance abuse. On November 1, a new book titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir will be released, in which the actor reveals everything.
When Friends first started, Perry had already admitted to People that he was already well on his way to being an alcoholic.
This issue continued to worsen over the years that followed, culminating in his colon rupturing as a direct result of his use of opiates about four years ago. Perry was placed in a medically induced coma for two weeks, admitted to the hospital for five weeks, and required the use of a colostomy bag for nine months.
In the clip, Perry can be heard telling Sawyer that he once took “55 Vicodin a day,” in addition to Methadone, Xanax and a full quart of vodka.
According to Perry, “at the time, I should have been the toast of the town,” but he wasn’t. Instead, she said, “I was in a dark room meeting nothing but drug traffickers, and I was all alone myself.”
During the interview, Perry asserts that he is clean and sober at this moment, but he refuses to provide a timeline for this turnaround.
