Thandiwe Newton is most likely going to check into a rehabilitation facility after she abruptly left the “Magic Mike 3” set for acting weirdly at work while going through the dissolution of her marriage. When crew members working on the set of “Westworld” became concerned about the actress’s health, she was in London filming the third episode of the series, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” alongside Channing Tatum.
The 49-year-old “Westworld” actress was flown back to the United States on Tuesday, hoping to check into a treatment facility. Her agent had flown in from Los Angeles to try to smooth things over and make things easier. According to a number of credible sources, since Newton’s divorce from her husband of 24 years, Ol Parker, with whom she has three children, she has been dealing with various personal and familial issues.
“Thandiwe had been acting strangely on site, and she has been quite highly strung,” one of the crew members remarked, according to the source. Her apparent mental collapse produced so much chaos that it became abundantly clear that she could not play the role.
Many things are going on in her life right now, including the fact that she and her husband have divorced. She appeared to be under such a great deal of stress that she even brought her two pet rabbits with her to her hotel as some form of mental support. The source added that as the situation became more stressful, “She sacked her UK agent of three decades, and then her US agent Gaby Morgerman flew in from Los Angeles to attempt to calm things down.”
“Thandiwe’s team is pushing for her to enter rehab so that she can receive treatment for her mental health. She was meant to depart right away for a facility; however, they attempted to check her into a rehabilitation center in Malibu, but they were unable to do so. If she is willing to fit into a facility in Arizona, preparations are currently being made to transport her there.
It was previously rumored that the “Mission: Impossible 2” actress was let go from the “Magic Mike” set due to a confrontation with her co-star Tatum about Will Smith’s infamous slap at the Oscars. However, according to several sources, there was not a “heated exchange of words” between her and Tatum, who is 41 years old and the star as well as the producer of the second installment of “Magic Mike,” and the two actors continue to get along.
The producers have decided to cast Salma Hayek as Newton, which means that all of the previous footage involving her character will need to be reshot. Both a spokeswoman for Newton and her agent, Morgerman, declined to comment on the matter.
An earlier statement from a spokeswoman for Warner Bros. stated that Newton “made the painful decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ in order to deal with family problems.”
