After being pulled over for a traffic check in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Friday afternoon, Kodak Black was taken into custody and charged with smuggling oxycodone of fewer than 25 grams, a first-degree crime, and possession of a controlled narcotic without a prescription. Online records say he’s currently held without bond at Broward County Jail in Florida. He was freed from prison today after paying a $75,000 bond.

Reports filed to the Miami Herald from Lt. Alex Camacho of the Florida Highway Patrol state that Kodak Black was pulled over for driving an SUV with window tinting that “looked to be darker than the legal limit.” After purportedly smelling marijuana, troopers searched the car to find 31 white tablets (later confirmed as oxycodone) in a transparent bag and $74,960 in cash.
The rapper’s driver’s license lapsed more than 30 days prior to the traffic check, too, according to the report. When reached by Pitchfork, Black’s lawyer Bradford M. Cohen says in an email: “Never judge a case solely on an arrest. There are facts and conditions that give birth to defense, especially in this case.
We agreed on a bond of 75,000, and we will go forward with resolving the situation quickly.” In addition, records examined by Pitchfork suggest that Black has pled not guilty to the charge.
Last year, outgoing President Donald J. Trump pardoned Kodak Black after he was convicted to nearly four years in jail following a May 2019 arrest for suggesting on the paperwork that he was not under indictment while attempting to buy firearms.
The rapper was also on bail in South Carolina at the time for sexual assault accusations. When Kodak Black was arrested in April 2019 near the border between the United States and Canada, the rapper pled guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On Trump’s final full day in office, he issued a pardon for the rapper. On his next single, “Last Day In,” Kodak Black addressed his pardon.
In April 2021, Kodak Black agreed to plead guilty to first-degree assault and battery arising from his violence against a high school student in 2016. He obtained a suspended 10-year term in return for the plea deal but is presently on his 18-month-long probation.
