Many people are starting to get on with their lives, believing that the pandemic is over. Return to physical work spaces, no masking, and not maintaining responsible social interactions with all, irrespective of their vaccination status.
However, the same cannot be said for all, as the CDC which the The US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that roughly 3% of the Americans, do not produce enough anti-bodies as much is required to keep them safe, due to being moderate to severely immuno-compromised.
The maximum people who make up this chunk, are people with history of previous illness, or major surgeries, which requires them to be under constant medication. These may be people in “active treatment for cancers of the blood or for solid tumors, certain organ transplant and stem cell recipients, people with advanced or untreated HIV, and those who take high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress their immune system.”
It is estimated that to build an immunity as such as that of a regular person with two doses, they might have to be inoculated 3 times, followed by a booster shot.
There are a lot of such people in America, for whom the pandemic is far from over.
Speaking to a media channel Courtney Hodge, an immune-compromised a single mom, reflected upon a new perspective towards life that the pandemic gave her, and now she tries to live under less fear, (the previous year) “made me reevaluate my entire life because you can die that quickly,” Hodge told.
She added that, “I am fully vaccinated with the booster, (so) I’ve been going out more and talking to more people than I think I have in my entire life,”
There are many who have developed a fresh perspective, through being diligent with their vaccination process. However, for others the fear still looms, as their disease dissuades them from even maintaining a healthy regular lifestyle, after 2 doses.

“You’re not going to know who is immune-compromised just by looking at them,” One young patient of Rheumatoid Arthritis said. “I would just be considerate of others around you, even if you don’t want to get the vaccine, wear your mask at least. Follow the safety protocols that we use so that you’re not risking others’ lives.”
