The senate has its holidays planned from December 10th onwards, which means there are only a handful of days available to make long strides at work, to achieve deadlines and goals. After the passing of the Infrastructure Bill, the various hands of the government already need to be set in motion.
The recent international summits and climate change legislation also have to be put in effect. The Democrats have promised a lot in terms of deliverables but is the execution actually possible in the short time frame, remains to be seen.
Plethora of negotiations is yet to take place, and many candidates are giggling at this opportunity to stall the efforts. “It’s going to be a train wreck,” surmised Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.).
However this is not a new thing at the White House, last year as well, the hustle-bustle at the doors of all Republican Senators’ offices had them on their toes. As they passed a huge spending allocation during the year-end, they did not cease to work even on New Year 2021.
Even though Democrats have a lot on their plate, and aim to finish Climate measures and Social Safety net measures by spring of 2022, it isn’t going to be an easy chase. “We’ll finish most of our work by December 31,” said Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.), said with positive hope.
The stalling effort on the Defence bill is turning to be an irksome exercise by the Republicans, a bill that would usually not be delayed so much. Some senators expressed their concern over this as well.
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said, “We have a reasonable pathway to enact Build Back Better. We will do the defense bill. I think we will enact at least part of or most of [the competitiveness bill] in the defense bill. And then the open question is [appropriations].”

It might take extra working hours, and missing some holiday bliss, but in case meaningful results are wanted there are no other options for the Biden Administration. However, their efficiency will be tested only next year.
