It has been reported that a Long Island, New York, woman who had been declared dead at her nursing home began breathing again after being transported to a nearby funeral home.
WNYW, a Fox affiliate in New York said that the 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Waters Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson.
She was brought to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, New York, around 1:30 p.m., and she began breathing normally again at 2:09 p.m. The woman was taken to a local hospital after the incident.
The event is currently being looked into by the New York State Attorney’s office. An Iowa funeral parlor had a similar incident at the beginning of this month and is now facing fines in the thousands of dollars.

A report published by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals on February 1, 2023 states that a 66-year-old lady who had been a resident at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center since December 2021 has been transferred to a hospice.
Currently, the facility is being investigated for state infractions that could result in fines of up to $10,000. The woman was confirmed dead on January 3 when personnel noted “her mouth was open, her eyes were fixed, and there were no breath sounds,” according to the report.
A certified nurse practitioner and funeral home director placed the woman’s remains in a body bag and zipped it closed after notifying the family. Neither officer saw any signs of life, they said. As soon as the bag was opened at the mortuary, the employee noticed the woman’s chest move, and she gasped for air.
The mortuary dialed 911, and when emergency personnel came, they found evidence of life in the form of a pulse and respiration. She went back to the nursing home where she passed away two days later.
