Washtenaw County Schools Will Be Closed On Thursday, February 23

The ice storm that began earlier this week is still going strong into its second day, forcing several school districts across Washtenaw County to cancel classes.

Counties in southern Lower Michigan were included in an ice storm warning that was issued from Wednesday to early Thursday morning. The alert stated that the area was expected to experience substantial icing as a result of freezing rain and sleet. The warning started at noon on Wednesday the 22nd of February and will last until 4:00 am on Thursday the 23rd of February.

Because the storm conditions in southeast Lower Michigan were the least severe in the state, a winter weather advisory was issued for the region rather than an ice storm warning, which was issued for the whole of the state of Michigan.

This is for the accumulation of one inch of snow, a few periods of sleet, and one tenth of an inch of ice due to freezing rain. Even in the area where a winter weather advisory is in effect, dangerous driving conditions will persist.
