Former President Donald Trump spoke at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night. He complained about several things, including that Attorney General Merrick Garland had appointed a new special counsel. Trump wrote earlier in the day on his Truth Social account that he is the subject of a “never-ending witch hunt.”
The special counsel will be in charge of the Justice Department’s investigation into whether or not there were classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The special counsel will also be in charge of key parts of a separate investigation into the Jan. 6 uprising and attempts to change the results of the 2020 election.
Garland stated on Friday that he chose Jack Smith, an experienced prosecutor, to be the special counsel because of several circumstances, including Trump‘s announcement that he will run for President, as well as President Joe Biden’s expected run for office in 2024.
The New Tone of the teleprompter speech during his announcement is over: Trump, responding to the appointment of a special counsel, calls the 2020 election "rigged" as he speaks at Mar-a-Lago

Trump referred to Smith as a “very extreme left special counsel” while claiming he had “done nothing wrong.” Trump stated, “This is a rigged agreement, just like the 2020 election was rigged, and we can’t let them get away with it,” He added, “We can’t let them get away with it.” “We cannot allow this to transpire in our great nation.”
The former President also levelled accusations of corruption and incompetence against Vice President Joe Biden, referring to him as a “corrupt and incompetent political hack,” and he referred to the President’s son, Hunter Biden, as a “corrupt drug addict.” Where is that party’s independent prosecutor? Trump asked. “We have done nothing wrong. They cannot be considered innocent.”
Additionally, he stated that Garland’s appointment of a special counsel was a “terrible misuse of power” on his part. On Friday, President Trump attacked the investigation into the classified documents taken from Mar-a-Lago in August as a “hoax” and a “witch hunt,” invoking the names of former Presidents Hillary Clinton and other former leaders. Trump told the people in the audience at his rally, “You people have to fight; you have to fight.” “You need to have some courage.”
After delivering his speech, which was given at a gala for the America First Policy Institute that required black tie attire, the former President did not take any questions from the audience. The speech that Trump gave on Friday follows his announcement on Tuesday that he will seek the presidency once more in 2024.
The investigation into Mar-a-Lago has progressed particularly rapidly, as evidenced by the fact that prosecutors this month granted immunity to a close Trump associate in order to secure his testimony before a federal grand jury.
The investigators working on that case have spoken with a diverse pool of witnesses. They have cited legal concerns in the documents they have filed with the court regarding the presence of top-secret materials in Mar-a-Lago despite the stringent procedures that govern the handling of classified information. They have also claimed that efforts were made to hinder the investigation.
As the special counsel, Smith will have the authority to decide whether or not criminal charges should be filed as a result of his investigations. He will also be in charge of prosecuting any crimes that he finds. Even though Garland, as attorney general, would continue to exercise ultimate control over his activities, he emphasised the autonomous decision-making ability that Smith would bring to the position.
Given how much emphasis Garland has placed on ensuring public confidence in his workforce of prosecutors following the turbulent years of the Trump administration, the selection of someone from outside the department as the special counsel was notable. Garland wanted to reassure Americans that his prosecutors’ decisions were based on facts, the evidence, and the law and could be trusted.
