Simone Ashley
Simone Ashwini Pillai (born March 30, 1995) is a British actress who goes by the stage name Simone Ashley. Her most well-known roles include Sex Education (2019–present) and Bridgerton (2022–present) on Netflix.
Ashley is from Camberley, Surrey, and has an older brother. She was born to Indian Tamil parents Latha and Gunasekharan Pillai. Ashley has talked about how, despite growing up in a family of academics, she has always been drawn to the arts. Her parents were apprehensive about her interest in the arts. She told Glamour Magazine, “My parents were quite protective of me.” “They’re the first generation,” says the narrator. They immigrated to our country from India, so they didn’t have a life where they could be anyone they wanted.” Ashley learned to sing classical music and opera as well as play the piano as a child. Ashley went to Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead for sixth form, and the family eventually moved to Beaconsfield. She went on to study acting at the Arts Institute of Chicago.

Ashley made her feature film debut in 2018 as Aarti in Boogie Man and as one of the characters named Ben Lyk in Kill Ben Lyk. Ashley first appeared in the Netflix comedy-drama S*x Education in 2019 as Olivia Hanan, a member of Ruby Matthews’ clique the Untouchables, a role she would return to in the second and third seasons. She played Elise Fox in the ITV psychological thriller drama The Sister.
Ashley was cast as leading lady Kate alongside Jonathan Bailey as Anthony in the second season of the Netflix romance period drama Bridgerton in February 2021 after auditioning in 2020. She will star in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid in 2023.

Jonathan Stuart Bailey is an English actor who was born on April 25, 1988. He has received a Laurence Olivier Award as well as nominations for the Evening Standard Theatre and Film Actor Guild Awards as a stage and screen actor.
Bailey started his acting career as Tiny Tim in a Royal Shakespeare Company performance of A Christmas Carol when he was six years old, and by the age of eight, he was playing Gavroche in a West End production of Les Misérables.
Since then, he’s performed in the play South Downs, for which he was nominated for an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer in 2012, the Royal National Theatre’s Othello in 2013, in which he played Cassio, the West End gender-swapped production of Company in 2019, for which he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical in 2019, and the West End revival of Cock in 2022.
CBBC adventure series Leonardo (2011–12), ITV crime drama Broadchurch (2013–15), BBC Two sitcom W1A (2014–17), and Channel 4 miniseries Crashing are among Bailey’s screen credits (2016). In 2020, he began starring in the Netflix historical drama Bridgerton as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, the de facto patriarch of the namesake family, for which he received international acclaim.

Despite the fact that she had never played in a historical piece before, the actress was quickly cast in a major role on season two of the hit Netflix series, which came with its own set of challenges. Simone Ashley admitted that she became ill on the first day of filming since she was unaware that she would not be allowed to eat a full dinner.
