The recognition for Shakira follows a remarkable year in which the singer broke all previous records with the biggest Spanish-language launch of 2022 (“Monotona” with Ozuna).

“Shakira is the ideal musician woman. She gave Latinas all over the world the confidence to create and perform very intimate songs. With grace, a long history of giving back, and immense talent, she alone started a movement that is still going strong today.

According to Leila Cobo, chief content officer for Latin/Espaol at Billboard, she embodies what a woman in music should be.

“Shakira has been pivotal in shaping the vibrant and diverse landscape of Latin music and music in general throughout her career.

Her passion, talent and creativity have broken barriers and empowered generations to embrace our identity through music, and we are incredibly proud to recognize her as Woman of the Year in the industry,” said Ronald Day, president of entertainment and content strategy for Telemundo.
