A road rage incident on Halloween resulted in the mayor of a small town in Oregon being arrested for attempted murder, according to the police. During the event, the mayor fired multiple gunshots at a family of four, which led to the incident.
According to a statement released by the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Halloween night at approximately 8:43 p.m. when a family of four — two adults and two children, ages 5 and 8 was traveling south on Highway 281, approximately 65 miles east of Portland, Oregon, when they encountered an SUV that was driving erratically. The children were traveling with their parents.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the family vehicle became concerned when they saw the SUV suddenly pull over to the shoulder of the highway. As a result, the driver of the family vehicle slowed down in order to get a description of the erratic driver and his vehicle so that he could report it to the police.
“As the family passed the suspect vehicle, a male subject stepped out of the passenger side and fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the passing family,” the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “As the family continued to pass the suspect vehicle,” the statement continued, “the suspect vehicle continued to drive away.”
