The fifth season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is about to begin, and from what we can tell, it will be the most significant upgrade to the games in a while. Along with new settings, operators, and weapons, a forthcoming event will also preview Call of Duty 2023 and what’s next ahead for the popular sh00ter series.
As part of Season 5, a lot is being added to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, including new modes that aim to shake up playlists and weapons that aim to update the game’s meta.
A Celebration of Hip Hop event also adds several well-known characters, while Warzone 2’s primary battle Royale style has undergone many adjustments.
Here is the release date for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 and details on what has been added. We’ll likely learn more about patch notes and updates once the season begins. When we do, we’ll update this page.
MW2 Season 5 Release Date
On August 2, 2023, at 9 AM PT, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 5 will debut across all platforms. Servers will be offline just before this time because a significant update is needed to experience the new season.

As of this writing, Activision has not disclosed any file sizes. However, PlayStationSize on Twitter has published old/new update sizes for various packs, at least for the PS5.

MW2 Season 5 Event
The official Call of Duty account just responded to a tweet asking if there would be an event to showcase the future COD game Modern Warfare 3 (2023), which has been leaked. But the MW3 release date has already been revealed through leaks and rumours.

You will be required to participate in this event by “join the ranks of Shadow Company to take on Konni forces and secure the chemical weapon threat before it’s too late.” The social media outlets for Call of Duty will post additional information about the event.
