James Gunn has stated unequivocally that the Batman that will appear in the DC Universe would not have the same face that we are accustomed to seeing hidden behind the mask.
Right now, there are a lot of Batman-related things being shown on screen. Ben Affleck is making his final appearances as the character before the DCEU is wiped from existence in The Flash, and Michael Keaton will also reprise his classic role as the character in that movie. All three of these appearances take place in Matt Reeves’ The Batman saga. Robert Pattinson is tasked with rescuing Gotham City from a perilous situation.
The Flash will perform a hard reset on the DC Universe, which will pave the way for a new Batman to take over in that continuity (although Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will continue to exist as part of its own continuity). At first, it appeared as though Keaton’s portrayal of Batman would continue into the new chronology. However, it now appears as though this will not be the case.
James Gunn has made it official and verified that we will be getting a new Dark Knight. There have been a lot of theories circulating about who the main Batman will be in the DCU, but James Gunn has made it official.

In The Dc Universe, Batman Will Be Played By A New Person
James Gunn, the co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, took to social media on Monday after a weekend filled with rumors concerning the future of the Caped Crusader in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Gunn’s goal was to not only refute some of those claims, but also clear things up.
People’s attention was mostly drawn to the prospect that George Clooney will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne from the much-maligned Batman and Robin movie that was released in 1997 and become the primary Bruce Wayne in the DC Universe. On Twitter, a fan contacted Gunn about the claim, and Gunn simply responded with the phrase “Absolutely not” in response to the question.
When another fan inquired as to whether the Dark Circle Universe’s version of the Caped Crusader will be played by a different returning veteran who had previously performed the character or a new actor, Gunn responded with “New actor.”
This appears to rule out future appearances from both Affleck and Keaton (though the latter might still exist in his own realm), and it does indicate that we will be seeing a new, possibly younger Batman on the silver screen when The Brave and the Bold arrives in movie theaters.
Given that Michael Keaton, Robert Pattinson, Ben Affleck, and Christian Bale have all previously played the role of Batman, the next actor to play the caped crusader will undoubtedly have big shoes to fill, but we wish them the best of luck anyway.
