Introducing GPT-4: Microsoft’s Powerful New AI Security Tool

Microsoft announced Security Copilot on Tuesday in a limited preview, continuing its effort to integrate AI-focused capabilities to provide “end-to-end defense at machine speed and scale.”

It is advertised as a security analysis tool that enables cybersecurity professionals to respond quickly to attacks, interpret signals, and evaluate risk exposure. OpenAI’s GPT-4 generative AI and its security-specific model are powered by it.

To achieve this, it gathers information and insights from a variety of products, including Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, and Intune, to assist security teams in understanding their environment, determining whether they are vulnerable to exploits, identifying ongoing attacks, gauging their scope, receiving remediation guidance, and summarizing incidents.

Users, for example, can utilize Security Copilot to produce a PowerPoint presentation explaining an incident and its attack chain or inquire about suspicious user logins during a specified period. Additionally, it can analyze files, URLs, and code fragments.

Redmond stressed that the tool is privacy-compliant and customer data “is not used to train the foundation AI models,” adding that

“the odds remain stacked against cybersecurity professionals” Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management, noted, “Today the odds remain stacked against cybersecurity professionals.”

To defend their organizations, defenders must take action against dangers frequently masked by noise. Too often, they engage in an asymmetric struggle against numerous, persistent, and intelligent attackers.
