According to sources familiar with the situation who spoke to CNN, President Joe Biden’s personal attorney Patrick Moore was interviewed numerous times by federal agents during the preliminary investigation into how he handled sensitive documents. Moore, who made the original finding of classified material while packing up Biden’s former think tank office, played a pivotal part in the manner in which the document discovery took place.
According to the White House, around 20 classified documents dating back to Biden’s time as vice president were discovered at his former office at the Penn Biden Center and at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware. After discovering the secret documents at the Penn Biden Center in early November, the team working for Biden promptly handed them over to the National Archives the next day.
According to a source who was briefed on the situation, Moore also handed over a set of non-classified personal materials to the Archives, which included speeches and reference material that had been transferred from the Penn Biden Center to Moore’s law office in Boston. Moore did not provide a response when asked for a statement. Biden’s personal legal team member who handles media inquiries declined to comment.

The preliminary assessment was conducted by the office of United States Attorney John Lausch, and the inquiry into the Biden records has now been turned over to Robert Hur, who was named special counsel just a week ago. In what is now a criminal investigation, Hur will build off the work Lausch has done and may re-interview some witnesses. Hur is now in the process of putting up his team.
The interview that was conducted with Moore by Lausch’s office was not preserved in a “302,” which is the form that the government uses to summarize formal interviews. This is because the initial review was conducted more casually. In spite of this, any remarks made to the office of the United States Attorney bear the same weight in the court as sworn declarations.
The office of Lausch conducted interviews with a number of individuals who are close to Biden. Kathy Chung, who worked as Joe Biden’s executive assistant when he was vice president and currently works for the Pentagon, was reportedly interviewed by the office, as was previously reported by CNN.
