After the Florida rapper realized his verses weren’t good enough for their planned duet, Drake praised Rod Wave’s skills as a nonverbal artist. In 2021, when Drake was putting the finishing touches on his “Scary Hours” EP, he requested Rod to guest on one of the three tracks.
Rod says in an interview with Complex that he tried to come up with a memorable moment while sitting with the material for weeks but came up with nothing. Rod claims he literally looked up to Drake as a kid and felt horrible turning down the partnership… but was ultimately confident in his choice.
Drake thought it was a bold move, and he told Rod so in an interview comment. With another Florida rapper by the name of Rick Ross replacing Rod, “Lemon Pepper” would still go on to become a hit.

Although the Drake feature is still downloading, Rod is not hallucinating; his long-awaited “Beautiful Mind” album was just released, featuring Jack Harlow and December Joy.
