Davis worked as a lawyer at a modest New York business after earning his law degree from Harvard. After working there for two years, he transferred to Rosenman, Colin, Kaye, Petschek, and Freund.
Notably, Davis was hired as an associate lawyer for Columbia Records, a CBS subsidiary, because partner Ralph Colin represented CBS as a client. He eventually attained the rank of general attorney.
J Records, RCA, and Sony
Following his departure from Arista, Davis founded the RCA Music Group-distributed record company J Records. He was made president and CEO of RCA a few years later. To create Sony BMG, BMG, and Sony Music Entertainment amalgamated in 2004.
In 2008, Davis resigned from RCA to take the position of chief creative officer of Sony BMG. He was immediately appointed Sony Music Entertainment’s chief creative officer.
Columbia Records
