It’s possible that Timothee Chalamet has just wormed his way into a leading role in a major motion picture. An advertisement that aired during the big game on Super Bowl Sunday featured the actor in a role that was instantly recognizable from one of his most famous films. However, more people than the average football fan took notice of his performance, and it’s possible that this will lead to a larger gig for him.
Insider Daniel Richtman claims that the production company is currently considering casting Timothée Chalamet in a part in an upcoming film in which he would effectively play the same character as he did in the commercial. Would it be possible to put Chalamet in the role of Edward Scissorhands’ son? It looks entirely possible at this point.
Timothee Chalamet and Winona Ryder were in the Cadillac ad that was in question. The first one is probably the son of the main character, Edgar Scissorhands, and Ryder is basically playing Kim Boggs from the first movie. She lives in the suburbs with her son, who has scissor blades for hands like his father. Here is the advertisement:
It’s a funny take on the idea that makes the case for steering without your hands. But it doesn’t look like Timothee Chalamet’s performance was the only thing that made people notice him. He does a great job as Edgar, who is unhappy and has trouble with day-to-day things because of his illness. It was a lot like Johnny Depp’s performance in the first version. Edgar breaking a football, getting in trouble for making a salad look too good, and other things give the story a sweet sadness.

Tim Burton and the studio didn’t seem to have concrete plans for an Edward Scissorhands sequel, but Timothee Chalamet’s performance may have pushed the issue. Since this did well with a national audience and brought the original character back into the public consciousness, the time could be right to bring the character (or his son) back into the fold.
The first Edward Scissorhands movie came out more than 30 years ago. It was a strange and unexpected hit for Tim Burton and his team. It was about a humanoid whose creator didn’t finish him and left him without normal hands. But really, it was a story about an outsider, Edward, who lives in a suburb and tries hard to fit in. He looks dangerous and bad, but he isn’t. He has a kind heart, but the sharp blades on his fingers make him look like he came from a horror movie. Timothee Chalamet gave the character the same kind of vibe.
We don’t know if Timothee Chalamet’s role as Edgar will actually lead to a second Edward Scissorhands movie. Tim Burton had said in the past that he didn’t want to bring the character back or tell more stories set in this world. But if the studio thinks they have a good choice for the main character, things can go downhill fast.
Before we can even think about a sequel to Edward Scissorhands, though, Timothee Chalamet will be in another big movie coming out soon. In Denis Villenueve’s remake of Dune, he will play Paul Atreides. It looks like it’s going to be an epic movie, which proves Chalamet’s star is on the rise.
