Ryan Carpenter, Eric Gustafson and Patrick Kane were placed in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, the Blackhawks announced Saturday morning. He did not practice with the team and his position is up in the air for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
In a similar move, the Blackhawks called forward Reese Johnson from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Absence related to the COVID-19 protocol can be the result of several factors, including an initial positive test that remains unconfirmed, symptomatic individuals, high-risk close contacts, or a confirmed positive test, among others.
Carpenter, Gustafson and Kane each played in a 4–1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Kane celebrated his 1,000th NHL game in front of an already sold out United Center crowd.
