The Colorado Springs Police Department reports that a shooting at a nightclub for the LGBTQ+ community in the 3400 block of North Academy Boulevard has resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to eighteen more (CSPD). According to reports authorities received numerous 911 calls starting at 11:57 p.m. and responded to the scene at Club Q, said Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro. According to Lieutenant Pamela Castro, CSPD’s Public Information Officer, officers began receiving reports of an active shooter at Club Q at approximately 11:57 p.m. According to police five people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Colorado Springs. We now have the suspect in our custody.
On the ground, Castro informed our colleagues at KRDO that police quickly located the suspect inside the bar. The police have the suspect in custody after he or she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Although Castro claimed no police officers were hurt, the nature of their wounds remains unknown.
Castro stated at the press conference that multiple victims were transported by ambulance and police cruisers to nearby hospitals. CSPD has announced that they have closed N. Academy Blvd. between N. Carefree Cir. and Village Seven Rd. CSPD told KRDO that they don’t know how long the investigation will take. But that residents should stay away from the area until Sunday morning.

It’s the most recent in a long line of shootings against people who identify as LGBTQ. In 2016, a shooter entered a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida and killed 49 people and injured dozens more. In terms of casualties, it ranks among the worst mass shootings in American history.
In recent years, there have been multiple mass shootings in Colorado. Ten people were killed by a sniper in a Boulder supermarket in 2021. More than a dozen people were killed when a gunman opened fire in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theatre in 2019. Thirteen people were shot and killed by two gunmen at Columbine High School in 1999.

At 8 a.m., CSPD will hold a second press conference to provide updates. The press conference will be broadcast live in the video player above. After the shooting, a statement was released by the Center on Colfax.
“Our hearts break as we learn of yet another senseless act of violence committed against the LGBTQ community in the early hours of the morning.” We are Freud-stricken for the loved ones of the victims and for the people of Colorado Springs who are dealing with these tragic losses just as many households are making preparations to celebrate the holidays together.
The General Manager of Triangle, Sean O’Grady released the following statement: “Tonight our LGBTQIA family in Colorado Springs faced a terrifying and abhorrent act of violence because of who they are and who they love.” Our loved ones in Colorado Springs are in our thoughts and prayers. We called it a night a little earlier than usual out of an abundance of caution and so that our staff could spend time with their families.
