While documenting one of the shootings, an Orlando television reporter was among those slain in a shooting spree in Florida on Wednesday that resulted in the deaths of three people, according to the police.
At a press conference, Mina stated that the individuals in question were employed by Spectrum News 13. On Twitter, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had earlier stated that they had one individual in arrest.
According to Mina, 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses was taken into custody and charged with homicide in connection to a shooting that occurred early on Wednesday morning. According to Mina, it is anticipated that Moses will be charged in connection with four further gunshots that took place later in the day, one of which resulted in the death of a journalist working for Spectrum News 13.
According to the sheriff, Moses has a lengthy criminal history that includes allegations of assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault, and aggravated violence. He has also been accused of using a gun in an attack.
Mina stated that deputies were dispatched to the 6100 block of Hialeah Street at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, they discovered a lady in her 20s who had been shot and had subsequently passed away as a result of her injuries. According to him, detectives were dispatched and collected evidence after the incident.
According to Mina, the police do not know why the suspect is believed to have targeted the two journalists as well as the mother and daughter who were shot.
Mina said-
“At 4:05, we received 911 calls about another shooting at that location and a shooting nearby”
Mina stated that the two journalists, a photographer and a reporter, were covering the murder that morning and that they were shot in or around their vehicle. The shooting took place in the morning.
Mina said-
“That vehicle was almost exactly in the same spot as the vehicle was from the homicide this morning. So it’s unclear why exactly they were targeted. And you know certainly we’re going to look into that, and we will definitely let you know”
The sheriff stated that the car didn’t appear to be a conventional news vehicle because it didn’t have a lot of marks on it.
Immediately after that incident, police were called to the scene of a third shooting, where they discovered that a mother on Harrington Street and her daughter, who was 9 years old, had both been shot inside of a residence. According to the sheriff, the nine-year-old child has passed away. According to Mina, it is unknown why the suspect went inside that residence.
“It is with deep sadness that @RTDNA learns of the death of a @MyNews13 journalist in Orlando,” Radio Television Digital News Association CEO Dan Shelley tweeted. “He was 1 of 2 of the station’s journalists shot covering a previous crime in a residential area. Sending thoughts of peace and comfort to their families, friends & the other victims.”
