Brandon Smiley, who was Rickey Smiley’s son, died, but no one knows why. No foul play is suspected. No one thinks that the death of Rickey Smiley’s son over the weekend was caused by a crime.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says that Brandon Jamaad Smiley, who was 32 years old, was found unresponsive in his home by a friend.
A friend found it at 10:07 a.m. on Sunday in the 2300 block of North 31st Avenue. Brandon Smiley was taken to UAB Hospital, and at 10:52 a.m., he was pronounced dead.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said that an autopsy done early on Monday showed no signs of trauma or wrongdoing. He also said that the cause of death will not be known until more lab tests are done. The Birmingham police are looking into it.
In a short video that was posted to Instagram and YouTube, After hearing the bad news Sunday morning, Rickey Smiley said that he was on his way “to get to the airport to get to Birmingham.”
Smiley, who was born and raised in Birmingham, did not talk about how his son died. He said –
“I just want everybody to pray for me, pray for our family. My son Brandon Smiley has passed away this morning. I’m about to go get on a flight and try to get to Birmingham … Lord have mercy, Jesus.”
He asked for prayers for his family, including Brandon’s mother and siblings. He said –
“I hate to announce this, I just want to give it to you before you hear it in the streets.”
Smiley, who went on to refer to the death of his father said –
“I just don’t know what to do, I can’t think.”
“Now I see what my grandaddy went through and why the way he felt the way he felt.”
Brandon Smiley was a comedian and an actor.
