Following the cancellation of The State following a one-night run on CBS, Lennon, Kenney, Ben Garant, and Michael Ian Black co-created and starred in Viva Variety (1997–1999) on Comedy Central. The show was based on “The Mr. and Former Mrs. Laupin Variety Programme,” a piece written by Lennon for the final season of The State. Viva Variety was nominated for a Cable Ace Award for Best Comedy Series. Following Viva Variety, Lennon, Kenney, and Garant produced and starred in Reno 911! (2003–2009), another TV sitcom. The show was originally scheduled to air on FOX, but it was eventually moved to Comedy Central. Currently, the show is syndicated all over the world.
On the fifth season finale of Friends, Lennon played Joey Tribbiani’s “same hand twin” who dealt blackjack (“The One In Vegas,” Pts. I and II). He’s also performed in scores of films as a supporting actor and as a guest star on numerous television shows. He and Paul Rudd were nominated for an MTV Movie Award for “Best Kiss” in 2009 for the kiss they “had” in I Love You, Man. He has appeared as himself and as Lt. Dangle on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show, The Daily Show, The Jimmy Fallon Show, The Talk Show with Spike Feresten, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Lennon has done voice work for a variety of shows, including Kim Possible and “Planet Sheen,” in which he portrays Pinter. He starred in multiple Snickers candy bar TV advertisements in the early 2000s, many of which were affiliated with and aired with the television show Survivor (U.S. TV series).
In addition, Lennon has written stories for a number of comic books. He wrote, “Jimmy Turtle and the Legendary Box Car of Well-Made Ladies Shoes” for The Goon and another story for Dwight T. Lennon began doing stand-up comedy in 2008, during which he will occasionally play guitar. He’s a regular at Comedy Death Ray in Los Angeles, and his photo was featured in the Comedy Death Ray 2010 Calendar for the month of July. He performed as the opening act for “Stella” at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles in 2009. In 2009, The State reformed for two concerts at Sketchfest in San Francisco, performing completely new material. The shows were completely sold out in a matter of minutes. Lennon and his creative partner Robert Ben Garant wrote and acted in The Strip, a 2010 NBC sitcom pilot. However, NBC stated in May 2010 that it will not be produced as a series.
The president of FX, John Landgraf, revealed in August 2010 that his network has ordered a pilot episode for a new Lennon/Garant sci-fi/comedy series called “Alabama,” set a thousand years in the future aboard the USS Alabama, a United Nations Peacekeeping vessel.
