The critically acclaimed horror series Penny Dreadful ran for three seasons before being canceled. Here’s why.
Here’s why, despite the show’s critical praise, there was no Penny Dreadful season 4. While Universal tried to start a Dark Universe of connected films with 2017’s The Mummy, things didn’t work out that way with their famed monsters. Negative reviews and poor box office performance effectively ended the franchise before it had even begun. When it came to combining Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dorian Gray, and other well-known monsters on TV, Penny Dreadful did it better – and scarier.
Eva Green (Casino Royale) and Josh Harnett appear in Penny Dreadful, a Showtime horror thriller set in 19th-century London. The show’s cast, which included Billie Piper and Timothy Dalton, as well as its gothic ambiance and respectful treatment of its horror legends, won high marks from critics. Although the show had the potential to go on for a long time due to the large cast, that was not the case in the end.
Penny Dreadful season 4 never happened because it was a shock to viewers who tuned in to the season 3 conclusion to hear that the show was abruptly ending.
Penny Season 2 of Dreadful was when creator John Logan (Skyfall) recognized the third season would be the conclusion of the series. Logan believed that Vanessa’s death at the hands of Chandler (Hartnett) in the season 3 finale was a fitting conclusion to her journey and the show as a whole.

Penny Dreadful Season 4: Canceled
Penny Dreadful left several issues unsolved, including Ethan’s werewolf history and what happened to Dracula after he was killed. Fans shouldn’t hold their breath for the fourth season of Penny Dreadful, though, since Logan believed the story could not continue without Vanessa’s involvement. Because of the magical shenanigans on the program, Vanessa may always be resurrected, but Logan appears to be willing to let her go.

City Of Angels Is A Forthcoming Spinoff Of Penny Dreadful
Despite this, Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels will continue to be a part of the Penny Dreadful franchise. According to my assumptions, the new series will be more of a spiritual continuation of the previous show’s stories than a direct continuation of them.
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels takes place in 1938 in Los Angeles, and Rory Kinnear, who previously starred as Frankenstein’s Monster, will take on a new character in the film. The new series is shaping out to be something special, and it may even be able to compete with Penny Dreadful’s high standard of excellence.
