In an interview with Vogue magazine, Michaela Coel confirmed that the character she will play in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be the latest LGBT character to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Coel will be making her debut in the MCU with “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” With Brian Tyree Henry’s portrayal of Phastos in “Eternals,” Marvel debuted their first character, who is outwardly gay, on the big screen.
Aneka is a captain and combat teacher in the Dora Milaje. She is in love with fellow warrior Ayo. Coel will also play a homosexual character with Aneka (Florence Kasumba). The fact that Aneka is a lesbian was a primary factor in Coel’s decision to participate in the “Black Panther” sequel’s cast.
Coel says that his character is gay was the deciding factor in his decision to accept the role. “I had the thought, ‘That’s cool, I need to show that to Ghana.'”
Coel may have spent her childhood in East London, but she has Ghanaian ancestry because both of her parents were born and raised in that country. A new bill that will call for some of the most repressive anti-LGBTQ laws that this nation has ever seen is currently being deliberated over in the legislative body of the country in question. Even before the bill’s drafting, Ghana already had a number of stringent anti-gay laws in place, many of which date back to the colonial era.
“Some people say, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it; it’s just politics.'” Coel stated, “But I don’t think it’s just politics when it affects how people get to live their day-to-day lives.” “That is why it seemed necessary for me to go in and perform that [‘Black Panther 2’] job because I knew simply by my being Ghanaian, Ghanaians will come,” she said. “That’s why I felt it was vital to step in and do that.”

Coel has a starring role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which also has Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett reprising their roles from the previous film. In addition to the Emmy winner for “I May Destroy You,” newcomers Dominique Thorne and Tenoch Huerta are featured in the cast. After Chadwick Boseman, the original lead of “Black Panther,” passed away, the whole cast and crew came together to continue the movie production despite their shared loss.
Regarding the sequel’s production, Coel has stated that it “felt like the entire cast was processing grief.” “There was a feeling that we needed to bring this baby home in the name of Chadwick, and it weighed heavily on our minds. I decided to roll up my sleeves and get involved in whatever needed to be done. I am not here to take the spotlight; instead, I am here to lend my support.
On November 11, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will debut in national theatres.
