One of the most eagerly anticipated sequels in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is Black Panther 2. The film’s title, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, refers to the status of Wakanda following the death of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman).
Actor Boseman is expected to die in August 2020 after a long battle with colon cancer. As a result, the film picks up after King T’Challa’s death, leaving Wakanda weak and susceptible to attack from outsiders, and infuses the real-life tragedy into the story. The new MCU character Namor (Tenoch Huerta) has had his comic book backstory changed from him being the Prince of Atlantis to the monarch of Talocan based on the mythical Aztec paradise Tlālōcān. According to folklore, persons who perish from lightning or drowning are entombed in Tlālōcān. The Rain God, Tllc, rules over the Palace. Seeing how Marvel infuses Aztec lore into the MCU will be interesting to watch.
After it was submerged, Atlantis became the home of the “homo mermanus” people, who were known as Atlanteans in the comics. People with two fish-like gills in the neck region, such as people with green or blue-colored skin, are distinct members of the race.
Homo mermanus people founded a society on the wreckage of the MCU’s Atlantis after “The Great Cataclysm,” when it was submerged under the ocean. Keeping in mind that the Celestials are the ones that brought the land underwater, as well as introducing the beings, is vital.
While Homo sapiens and Homo mermanus are cousins, they’ve always had a tense relationship. There is no idea of Atlantis or Talocan in the MCU, hence it follows that there has been no contact here between Atlanteans and humans in the MCU thus far.

Considering Talocan’s technological advancements in the film, it will be intriguing to see how Talocan differs from Atlantis in the comic books and the DC Aquaman film. From animation classics like Atlantis: The Lost Empire to Golden Age Hollywood portrayals like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Atlantis has appeared numerous times on the silver screen.
By incorporating Aztec mythology, the MCU not only provides an imaginative interpretation of the legendary lost city but also connects it to its ensemble of mesoamerican characters.’
