Police at Michigan State University say that at least three people were killed and several more were hurt in a shooting. The suspected attacker died from a gunshot wound that looked like it was done by himself.
Monday, university police posted on Twitter that shots had been fired near an academic building called Berkey Hall and a sports facility called IM East.
After shots were heard around the East Lansing campus of Michigan State University (MSU), police told students and staff to stay put at first. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the university’s police sent out an alert telling students to “run, hide, and fight.”

While asking the public for information, the police said they didn’t know what the attack was about and was still trying to find out who did it.
Earlier in the evening, police showed pictures of the suspect and said he was a short man with a mask on. Gretchen Whitmer, the governor of Michigan, was told about the shooting and sent out a tweet to show her support for the community.
She said, referring to the university’s athletic logo –
“Let’s wrap our arms around the Spartan community tonight.”
There are about 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students at MSU’s main campus in East Lansing, which is about 90 miles (145 km) northwest of Detroit. University police said that for the next 48 hours, all classes and campus events would be canceled.
