Oak Ridge Park (136 Oak Ridge Road, Clark) will host the Fall Concert on Saturday, September 10 from 6 to 10 p.m., and the Board of County Commissioners is inviting locals to attend. Anyone can attend at no cost. Here we will tell you that Max Weinberg will perform in Clark on Sept. 10.
Concert headliners The Smithereens and Max Weinberg have been announced. Performing first is Ray Andersen’s Bowie & Beyond.
“We are pleased to continue providing free concerts in our County Park system to our people,” said Rebecca Williams, chair of the County Commission. Everyone in the area is encouraged to attend and take part in the musical celebration.
The entrance is complimentary. Residents are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to sit on while watching the entertainment. Max Weinberg, the drummer for The E Street Band, “has pleased music enthusiasts for decades,” as stated by Commissioner Alexander Mirabella. “With this amazing lineup, we anticipate a wonderful evening,” they said.
Max Weinberg is a well-known American drummer and TV host, best known for his work as a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and as the leader for Conan O’Brien on Late Night and The Tonight Show. Jay Weinberg, the drummer for Slipknot, has him as a dad.
Weinberg was raised in a New Jersey suburb and picked up drums at a young age. In 1974, he received his big break when he passed an audition to become Springsteen’s drummer. As a member of the E Street Band, he was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
The Smithereens, a rock band formed in New Jersey in 1980, has been making groundbreaking music for four decades and have been cited as an inspiration by many artists, including Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.
The late lead singer, Pat DiNizio, was from Scotch Plains, while guitarist Jim Babjak, drummer Dennis Diken, and bassist Mike Mesaros all grew up together in Carteret. Since DiNizio’s death in 2017, the group’s surviving members have resolved to press on and continue playing their songs.
As a tribute to the late David Bowie, Ray Andersen came up with the idea for the BOWIE & Beyond Tribute Show in 2018. The concert is a tribute to David Bowie’s music, and it features a cast of talented musicians and singers recreating his songs note for note.
