On Monday, the Philadelphia 76ers (0-3) will host the Indiana Pacers (1-2), both of whom are off to slow starts in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers won two of the three head-to-head games against the Pacers last season, but the Pacers always beat the spread.
Mathurin Did A Great Job As A Rookie
At BetMGM, the over/under for the Indiana Pacers’ preseason win total was set at just 24.5. This means that the team is likely to be in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes when the season is over.
On Monday, the Pacers will play their first game of the season. After losing to the Wizards and the Spurs to start the season, Indiana beat the Pistons as a 1.5-point favourite, 124-115. Benedict Mauthrin, a rookie who was picked sixth overall in the 2022 draught, scored 27 points to lead his team to victory. He averages 24 points per game, which is second on the team. Tyrese Haliburton leads Indiana with 25.7 points per game and is tied for first in the NBA with 9.7 assists per game.
it had been four years since @BennMathurin ate a home-cooked meal from his mom.
this week, his mom and sister flew in to surprise him & the team with his favorite Haitian meal to celebrate his first NBA game.🥰 pic.twitter.com/2VM6KRTQq7

Despite just making 35.3% of their three-point attempts and shooting 44.4% from the field, Indiana ranks seventh in the NBA in terms of scoring average, coming in at 121.7 points per game. On defence, the Pacers are ranked 27th in points allowed per game (127), 16th in field goal percentage allowed (45.9%), and 29th in three-point field goal percentage allowed (44.2%).
Looking To Avoid A 0-4 Start
With an over/under win total of 50.5, the expectations for the Philadelphia 76ers are significantly higher than those for the Indiana Pacers. Even though it’s still early in the season, the club has to find a way to win after starting the campaign with three consecutive defeats.
With the Philadelphia Phillies advancing to the World Series and the Philadelphia Eagles being the only unbeaten team in the National Football League, the city of Philadelphia has a lot of reasons to be excited right now. A comparable level of success is anticipated from the 76ers.
THE FIGHTINS!

The 76ers suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of the Celtics and the Bucks and then went on to lose outright to the Spurs 114-105 despite being a 13.5-point favourite in the game. In the loss, Joel Embiid led the team with 40 points and 13 rebounds, and Tyrese Maxey was the next-highest scorer with 25 points. James Harden had a rough shooting night, going 4 for 18 from the field for 12 points, but he led the team in assists with 12 and was tied for the lead in rebounds with nine.
Embedded is averaging 27 points per game, Harden is averaging 26 points per game, and Maxey is averaging 20.3 points per game for the 76ers, but the team’s overall scoring average of 103.3 points per game ranks just 29th in the NBA.
The 76ers are shooting just 45.7% from the field, which places them in 20th place, and 31.5% from beyond the arc, which places them in 25th place. On defence, the 76ers are ranked ninth in allowing 110 points per game, but they are ranked 15th in allowing opponents to shoot 35.7% from beyond the arc and 24th in allowing opponents to shoot 48.2% from the field.
The 76ers are not getting anything out of their bench right now, and they do not appear like a team that should be favoured by double digits against any opponent. However, it is likely that Philadelphia will eventually have a record that is significantly better than Indiana’s.
Additionally, the 76ers have only covered the spread once in their last ten games against an opponent that has a winning percentage of less than.400, while the Pacers have covered the spread in each of their last four head-to-head matchups against Philadelphia. The young Pacers are giving it their all, and Bennedict Mathurin already has the look of a future superstar on his game. Covering Indiana is fun for me.
