Who is Tyson Bagent?
Tyson Bagent, raised in his native Martinsburg, West Virginia, is a genuine product of the rural roads. Martinsburg, located in the easternmost panhandle of the state, is a sleepy town with only 18,835 persons, according to the 2021 U.S. Census.
As a result, Bagent’s rise to national fame would always need some effort and some good fortune. Fortunately, his genetic makeup allowed for it. Bagent is the son of a legendary Shepherd baseball player and a gigantic arm wrestler.
“In arm wrestling, I’m one of the first two guys on Mount Rushmore,” Travis Bagent, Tyson’s dad, told The Athletic. I’m proud and happy about that.”
“As crazy as the odds are, it always made sense to me that this is the position I would be in,” Bagent said, per The Athletic.
The game became one of Martinsburg’s most enduring sporting events thanks largely to his grandfather, Jerry Boyd. That being said, Bagent is more than just an athlete. He is a performer. At Shepherd, where he broke record after record, he demonstrated this. Shepherd is less than 20 minutes from his house.

The statistics were astounding: 16,869 throwing yards, 159 passing touchdowns, and a completion rate of nearly 70% in four years as a starter. Pretty bad for a recruit with zero stars. With 41 passing touchdowns to only eight interceptions, Bagent finished his final season with the Rams in fine fashion.

He had a respectable, though unspectacular, performance at the Senior Bowl, completing 17 of his 22 throws for 138 yards (excellent! ), but he also threw an easy interception in the end zone.
Nonetheless, don’t be shocked to hear Bagent’s name called late in this year’s draught given his dazzling numbers and good physical skills (Bagent stands at 6-foot-3 with a 210-pound frame, a comparable weight) height to many of the league’s pitchers), and above-average mobility.
If true, he would be the first Shepherd University athlete selected since 1960 and the first DII quarterback drafted since 1999.
