Henry Cuellar Carjacked
Fox News Digital confirmed that U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, was the victim of an armed carjacking Monday night in Washington, D.C.
According to U.S. Capitol Police, the longstanding Democratic congressman was in the Navy Yard neighborhood when the incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. The organization was called to the scene at New Jersey Avenue and K Street Southeast, along with the Metropolitan Police Department. The entire block has been cordoned down as police investigate.
In connection with the carjacking, MPD is looking for three suspects described as Black individuals wearing all-black attire. Cuellar’s stolen car, a white Honda CHR, was later recovered.
Three armed assailants approached Congressman Cuellar as he was parking his car this evening and stole his vehicle, Cuellar’s chief of staff Jacob Hochberg said in a statement. Fortunately, he was not injured and is cooperating with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro Police and Capitol Police for their quick response and recovery of the Congressman’s vehicle.
House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., was seen with Cuellar at the incident scene as Capitol police processed the scene and took a statement from Cuellar.
The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC is investigating an armed carjacking that occurred around 9:30 p.m. in DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood, Capitol police stated in a statement. Because the victim has been identified as a Member of Congress, the USCP is collaborating with MPD on this case. No injuries were recorded. Detectives are on the lookout for the suspects.
Cuellar became the second Democrat in Congress to be a victim of crime in the nation’s capital this year as a result of the event on Monday. Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig was attacked in an elevator at her apartment complex in February before fighting back.
