Following a search warrant executed at his house in Bucharest on December 29, 2022, the man, who is now 36 years old and has lived in Romania for the past five years, was reportedly taken into custody together with his brother Tristan.

According to Sky News, authorities in Romania have confirmed that Andrew Tate was detained as part of an investigation into human trafficking, rape, and the formation of an organized crime cell. The anti-organized crime unit’s prosecutors have stated that the brothers were supposed to be held in custody for a period of twenty-four hours.
The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism Unit in Romania has published a statement, however they have refrained from directly naming the brothers. It was reported that two citizens of the United Kingdom and two citizens of Romania were suspected of being members of a criminal organisation concerned with the trafficking of human beings.
Reports indicate that the prosecutors made the following allegation: “The four suspects… appear to have constructed an organized crime gang with the intention of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women.”
According to a report from the BBC, a video that is making its way through various social media platforms allegedly shows the British-American citizen and his brother being led away from their home.

At the time this article was written (December 30, 2022), Andrew Tate was still behind bars and had not been released. There was no public announcement of any type of release from either the Romanian authorities or the captives themselves.
