The fourth season of Westworld is ready to go, and we’ll just have to wait patiently.
“From the western theme park to the technocratic city of the near future, we’ve enthusiastically appreciated every twist and turn,” HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys stated before its arrival.
As Variety reported prior to the announcement of the fourth season, showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan stated that they want to produce at least one more season of the wacky sci-fi feast.
As far as I know, there is nothing in store for them. In this guide, we’ll go over all the details of Westworld Season 4.
Westworld Season 4 Release Date
Sadly, as of January 2022, Westworld season 4 does not have a confirmed release date. Jeffrey Wright has confirmed that filming took place in June of 2021, which is a good indication for us.
With HBO’s massive advertising video for HBO Max, teaser glimpses of what’s to come to appear to indicate that the episodes will be released at some point this year.
Seasons one, two, and three were released in 2016, 2018, and 2020, respectively, with a typical two-year break between them.
Unlike season one, which premiered in the fall, seasons two and three debuted in the spring, with premiere dates in late March or early April. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for then, given the show’s current trend.
Westworld season 4 Cast
The cast of Westworld has it better than most. If their roles are killed off, performers may frequently return in a new host body, which implies that even casualties from season three could reemerge later on.
Some of the returning cast members have been revealed via the HBO sizzle reel. With Thandiwe Newton as Maeve Millay, Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe / Arnold Weber, and Aaron Paul as Caleb Nichols, the ensemble is complete
In addition to the aforementioned stars,
- Tessa Thompson as Charlotte Hale / Dolores Abernathy
- Luke Hemsworth as Ashley Stubbs
- Simon Quarterman as Lee Sizemore
Ed Harris has returned in yet another twist. However, as is characteristic of Westworld, the Man in Black was slain and replaced with a host controlled by Thompson’s “Halores,” which implies Harris will be back for more in round four of the series.
“I have no idea what they have planned for me,” Newton said at The Paley Centre for Media (via Looper): “I’m teamed with Tessa [Thompson], I know. Hopefully, we can do some rightful damage.”
However, she seemed to be loving the scripts for season four that she has seen thus far.
“It’s so good, man,” Newton said (via ComicBook). “For me, no truly, for me, it’s got all the best elements from one, two, and three are here. It is so rich and there’s something about the pandemic.
“It’s not literally, but I just think it’s fed us all in a way, like our lives depend on art now in a different way. I mean, literally our lives depend on art because art is being removed from us.”
For Evan Rachel Wood, who portrayed the original Dolores Abernathy, the future appears to be clouded by uncertainty.
According to Wood, her character’s destiny was revealed on the Variety and iHeart Radio podcast The Big Ticket.
“We really find out the arc of our characters episode by episode. We get a general idea at the beginning of each season; they tell us where our characters are at, what their mission is, and then go.
“Then we learn as we go. It’s one of the reasons why I think it’s challenging to work on, but also what makes it exciting,” she continued. “So [co-creator Jonathan Nolan] called me up and broke the news to me.
“He said that she was going to die. He was very blunt about it, and slightly cryptic about other questions I had, but confirmed that yes, the Dolores that we know is gone.”
That was confirmed by Nolan to Variety: “Dolores is no longer alive. Despite the fact that we like Evan Rachel Wood, we haven’t begun talking about what the show will look like in the future yet publicly. However, it appears to be rather different.”
However, this does not rule out the possibility of another encounter with Wood.
“I think it’s important with a show in which death can be impermanent – these are robots, after all – to mark the occasion with Dolores,” said Nolan, adding: “That version of that character is gone.”

Westworld Season 4 Plot
According to Deadline, Prodigal Son’s Aurora Perrineau has joined the gang and is expected to appear in a minimum of five episodes. This is yet another fantastic development.
And is it possible that a Hugh Jackman cowboy cameo is in the works?
“You’re going to see some new worlds that I think are really fun and you’re going to see someone who I kidnapped from Reminiscence in a funny way,” Joy told Deadline.
Stranger and stranger things happen when you’re a kid.
Joy and Nolan, the creators of Westworld, have had a general plan for what will happen since the show’s inception, and now that the hosts have fled the park, season four might very well be the end of our favorite sentient machines.
If that’s the case, then everything will be up in the air as the fight against humanity reaches its conclusion, guaranteeing even more dramatic turns in the season’s closing episodes.
In a prior interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan discussed the themes of season three, and the following concepts might very well apply to season four as well:
“I think it’s a radical shift. What’s compelling and appealing about these characters is that they’re not human. As we said in the show, humans are bound by the same loops the hosts are, in some ways even smaller,” he explained.
