Wednesday Addams

Wednesday Addams

The oldest daughter of the Addams family is ready to take back her story. Wednesday Addams has stolen scenes and scared people in a number of movies and TV shows, and now she’s getting her show. Deadline says she will have a monochromatic wardrobe and sneaky plans to take over the world in a live-action Netflix show from Tim Burton. Wednesday is an eight-part project that will tell the story of her time as a student at Nevermore Academy.

As part of Netflix’s #GeekedWeek for 2022, which started on June 6, the Netflix Twitter account showed a first look at Jenna Ortega as a teenage Wednesday Addams. Text on the video says, “Netflix woefully presents… a strange new story from the mind of Tim Burton.” As Ortega walks into the frame and adjusts her collar, Thing appears on her shoulder and snaps with Wednesday.

Here’s everything we know about the Netflix show Wednesday before it starts.

The Wednesday Plot

According to the synopsis of the series provided by Netflix, the young woman will utilize her “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting” powers during a new adventure while she is still attending school.

“That’s where she tries to get a handle on her developing psychic ability, stop a monstrous killing spree that’s been plaguing the nearby town, and figure out the supernatural mystery that’s been plaguing her parents for the past 25 years, all while navigating her new and very complicated romantic relationships. This also indicates that other members of the Addams family, such as Morticia and Gomez Addams, will occasionally make appearances in the show.

In addition to serving as an executive producer, director, and showrunner for the series, Burton will collaborate with Smallville’s original creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, on the project. Additionally, Gough and Millar will be writing episodes for the Netflix series. In a statement, Netflix’s Director of Original Series Teddy Biaselli said that the writers “nailed the tone, the spirit, and the characters, but gave us a fresh way into this story” with their initial pitch on Wednesday.

Teddy Biaselli says that the writers “gave us a fresh way into this story.” Regarding Tim Burton’s participation, Biaselli stated, “Tim has a history of portraying inspiring stories about societal outsiders like Edward Scissorhands, Lydia Deitz, and Batman.” “And now he takes his one-of-a-kind vision to Wednesday and the frightening students at Nevermore Academy,” the sentence reads.

Ortega will play the lead role. In You, she played Ellie, a brilliant and unsupervised teen, and she announced her new role by posting a picture of herself holding the script. Ortega told Entertainment Weekly that she was excited and nervous to play Wednesday and incredibly excited to see the character get older.

Christina Ricci played Wednesday Addams Family in the famous movies The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). In 2010, Krysta Rodriguez played a part in The Addams Family: A New Musical on Broadway. The last time Chlo Grace Moretz voiced Wednesday was in The Addams Family, an animated movie in 2019.

Wednesday Addams

As for Wednesday’s weird parents, on August 9, 2021, Netflix announced on Twitter that the two iconic roles had been filled. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia Addams, the family matriarch who wears red lipstick (Queen America, Chicago).

On August 16, 2022, a first look at the main cast was shown. Zeta-Jones, Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Wednesday Ortega were the people pictured. Gough told Vanity Fair that Burton significantly impacted how the characters looked.

“He wanted the silhouette to look more like the Charles Addams cartoons, in which Gomez is shorter than Morticia, rather than the kind of suave Raul Julia version in the movies,” Gough said about the visual differences in their version of the story. Millar added, “It was very important to the show that it didn’t feel like a remake or a reboot.

It fits in the Venn diagram of things that have happened before, but it is still its own Thing. It doesn’t try to be like the movies or the TV show from the 1960s. Tim and we both thought that was very important.

The Wednesday Release Date

Wednesday hasn’t been given an official release date yet, but the trailer on August 17 said that the show would premiere in 2022. Fans can’t wait for this scary icon to show off her mighty axe of destruction on Netflix.

The Wednesday Teaser
