Richard Williams and Oracene Price had Venus Ebony Starr Williams on June 17, 1980, in Lynwood, California. When Venus was 10, her family moved from Compton, California, to West Palm Beach, Florida, so that she and her sister Serena could go to Rick Macci’s tennis academy. When Venus was 11, Richard Williams pulled her and her sister Serena out of national junior tennis tournaments. At the time, Williams had a 63–0 record on the USTA junior tour and was the best player in Southern California who was under 12 years old. In 1995, Richard took his daughters out of Macci’s academy and started coaching them on his own.

From the 2000 Wimbledon Championships to the 2000 Generali Ladies Linz tournament final, she won 35 straight matches, which is the longest winning streak since January 1, 2000. Hank Kuehne, a pro golfer, was Williams boyfriend from 2007 to 2010. In 2012, she began dating Elio Pis, a Cuban model. When he was hired to model underwear for Eleven, that’s how they met. They were an item until 2015. From 2017 to 2019, Venus dated Nick Hammond, who came from a publishing family. Yetunde Price, Venus and Serena Williams’ older half-sister, was shot and killed in 2003 near the tennis courts in Compton where the sisters used to play. Price worked for the three Williams sisters.
