This coming April will mark the introduction of Mario in an animated feature film for the first time. But, with just one month left until the film’s release, Nintendo has unveiled yet another trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. On Thursday, a special Nintendo Direct was broadcast on Nintendo’s YouTube page in order to provide the premiere of the final trailer.
The teaser revealed a lot more of the movie than we had seen previously, including the fact that Mario and Peach’s mission in the film is to rescue Luigi from Bowser’s grasp, which is the central conflict of the story. The clip makes numerous references to Mario spinoffs, such as Super Smash Bros., but the most obvious reference is to Mario Kart, as all of the characters can be seen racing down Rainbow Road, which is the most well-known course in the Mario Kart series.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the sole focus of Nintendo’s second Direct, which is being shown today. During the most recent movie-centric Nintendo Direct, the character Donkey Kong was unveiled, and the company provided some insight into the evolution of his look from the video games to the big screen. This time around, the actors of the movie made a brief appearance during the Direct, but the majority of the attention was placed on the newly released trailer.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to be released on April 5, and it is being created in collaboration between Nintendo, Universal Studios, and Illumination Animation (Minions: The Rise of Gru). In the film, Chris Pratt plays Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the role of Peach, Jack Black portrays Bowser, Seth Rogen takes on the role of Donkey Kong, and Charlie Day plays Luigi, amongst many more actors.
