The Chair Recap

Sandra Oh returns with a performance that will make you fall in love with her all over again. “The Chair,” a Netflix original series created by Amanda Peet and Annie Whyman, cuts the mustard with its honest and authentic tale and characters.

The drama follows Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim (Sandra Oh), who is appointed chair of the English department, which is already coping with low enrolment concerns and a few elderly faculty members who refuse to resign.

She is also the first woman and person of colour to hold this position in Pembroke University’s history. Dr. Ji-Yoon walks into her new office with a gleam in her eyes and a stride in her step, and with it, she walks into a world of chaos and never-ending hurdles.

On her first day, she convenes a meeting with all of the professors, with the exception of Bill Thompson (Jay Duplass), who appears to be the most popular and well-liked member of the staff among the students. Bill, who lost his wife about a year ago, has gone to the airport to pick up his daughter. He decides to go to the pub, get drunk, and lose his car, despite his daughter’s advise to ‘get his shit together,’ and what follows is a fantastic comedy of errors.

The Chair Season 2 Plot

After a revolution by her peers, Ji-Yoon was no longer Chair of the Pembroke English department at the end of season one. Elliot put himself forward, but Joan was left in control after a hard “f**k no” from Oh’s character, which means she may finally work in an actual office rather than the basement of the school gym.

Ji-Yoon can spend more one-on-one time with her daughter Ju Ju now that her plate is somewhat lighter. The two have a tumultuous relationship, which we can anticipate to continue in the following chapter as Ju Ju attempts to figure out who she is and where she belongs in the world.

Meanwhile, Bill has turned down a settlement offer from the college and is battling to reclaim his position. In the meantime, he’ll be babysitting Ji-Yoon to keep himself occupied.

At the conclusion of The Chair’s first instalment, the two were back on good terms, but they had yet to truly embrace their romantic relationship. Bill’s grief over the death of his wife is still palpable, but his feelings for Ji-Yoon are far from platonic.

In season two, will she eventually give in and follow her emotions rather than her head?

The Chair Season 2 Release Date

Subscribers appear to be enthusiastic about the show. Shortly after its release, the show quickly became one of Netflix’s top ten most-watched TV shows. Plus, according to the Rotten Tomatoes numbers, it’s a major hit with critics and audiences alike in terms of quality.

If Netflix decides to continue “The Chair” for a second season, production should begin soon. Because most series take a one-year hiatus between seasons, fans might expect a new season to premiere in August or September 2022. Of course, delays caused by the COVID-19 outbreak could make things more difficult.
