We haven’t seen new episodes of Ted Lasso in more than a year, but there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel. Apple TV+ says that the show will come back in “spring 2023.” That’s a big window, but we now know more than we have in the last year and a half. For the third (and maybe last) season, Jason Sudeikis took over as showrunner. It’s been a long way to Ted’s next chapter.
In Season 1, the show was mainly about Ted trying to get used to British culture and a sport he didn’t know anything about. In Season 2, everyone’s character grew. With the help of Dr. Sharon (Sarah Niles), Ted dug deeper into his past traumas in Season 2.
As their relationship grew, we also got to spend more time with now-retired footballer Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and model-turned-PR executive Keeley Jones (Juno Temple). Coach Beard, played by Brendan Hunt, got more lines and became more than just the coach’s assistant.
And, spoiler alert for Season 2, the most shocking thing happened when Nick Mohammed’s character, “Nate the Great” Shelley, went from being a lovable, sometimes bumbling assistant to a full-fledged enemy who turned to the dark side and took a coaching job with West Ham, the club owned by Richmond F.C. owner Rebecca Welton’s (Hannah Waddingham) bitter ex-husband Rupert (Anthony Head). Bill Lawrence, who helped make Ted Lasso and is an executive producer, and Brett Goldstein, who is a co-creator of Ted Lasso, didn’t say much at the TCA presentation for their new show Shrinking in the morning. Lawrence said that he has seen Season 3 cuts and that he thought they were “f—king awesome.” Goldstein also said that Ted Lasso is his favorite actor.
Some Ted Lasso music editors say March 2023 is the release date before the announcement (the comment seems to have since been deleted). There were also rumors that the last scene of the show had been shot in November. The voice behind AFC Richmond, Arlo White, tweeted on November 9 that he had finished his last day of filming for the show.
(This doesn’t mean that all of the episodes have been shot.) One comment says “Arlo, what do you know about a release date? Give us the inside scoop,” to which he says, “I promise I don’t know that.” I’m waiting like you!”
Chip Hamilton, who is in charge of coordinating Ted Lasso, just posted this touching tribute to the show’s cast and crew. The caption uses a lot of clear past tense language, which makes us think that things are coming to an end. The caption says, “To the people in the picture and the equally important cast and crew members who aren’t: This was and is a dream.” “From the depths of my soul… Many thanks. We are Richmond Till We Die. No one can take that away from us. I love you all.”
There had been rumors that Season 3 would be delayed by a lot, but nothing from an official source like Apple TV+ or Warner Bros. People say that since Sudeikis has become the showrunner, he has been asking for rewrites to make sure the scripts are perfect.
Puck says that “character arcs were shifted” and “script changes were made on the fly.” There are even rumors that a shoot in Amsterdam will move to a different place. The show was supposed to start filming in September 2021, but it didn’t start until March 2022.
Even at the 2022 Emmys, Sudeikis didn’t give much hope that the new season would be coming soon. During his speech, he told the crowd, “We’ll see you for Season 3 at some point.”
Ted Lasso Season 3 Plotline
The editors of Ted Lasso, A.J. Catoline and Melissa McCoy, stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Rebecca and Nate will experience some of the most significant character arcs during the show’s third season.
“[Nate’s] professional life is moving in the right direction…
He began as the team’s kitman in the first season, later became a coach, and is currently the head coach of West Ham “Catoline remarked. “As a producer and developer, Jason is an extremely kind individual. He creates a plot for each of the people in the novel. I believe that is the reason [the episodes are so long]… There are a lot of different plots, and he wants each character to have their own narrative.”

Ted Lasso Season 3 Release Date
Apple TV+ made the announcement during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour that Ted Lasso Season 3 will be available on the streaming service in the spring of 2023. This will allow the show to be eligible for Emmy consideration during the following fall.
According to several sources, the multiple Emmy Award-winning television series will come to an end with its upcoming third season. According to Deadline, the show’s writers and producers, including Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, and Bill Lawrence, have acknowledged that they intend for Season 3 to serve as the series finale and are writing it as such. Having said that, in an interview with Deadline, Lawrence left the door open for the potential of additional Ted Lasso episodes.
The tale that the writing crew has been telling has had a beginning, middle, and finish throughout the first three seasons of Ted Lasso, according to the co-creator of the show. “Even if Ted Lasso carries on,” the co-creator stated. “And then it’s possible that it will diverge from that.” However, in the end, it is up to Sudeikis, and it seems as though he is leaning more toward three-and-out than than continuing the program when the upcoming season is over.
Hannah Waddingham addressed the speculations that this is the final season as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live in July. She said, “I don’t know why that’s come out so vehemently because we don’t know that for definite.” She went on to say, “[Translation:] “Even if we left it at this, Jason has pointed out that that’s just where we leave (the characters) for now.” Same Hannah, same.

For Season 3, most of the cast will be back, led by Jason Sudeikis, of course. Becky Ann Baker (The Resort) has been cast as Ted’s mom, and Jodi Balfour (The Crown) has been added to the cast as Jack, a charming venture capitalist. We can’t wait to see how these new characters fit in. As Ted has said before, “I love getting to know people’s moms. It’s like reading a guide on how to figure out why they’re crazy.”
