TC Energy Says It Hasn’t Found The Reason Why The Keystone Oil Pipeline Leaked

TC Energy of Canada (TRP.TO) stated on Sunday that it has not yet confirmed the source of the oil pipeline leak that occurred in the United States last week due to the Keystone pipeline. The company also did not provide a timetable for when the pipeline will resume normal operations.

After more than 14,000 barrels of crude oil poured into a creek in Kansas on Wednesday, TC shut down the pipeline. This made the spill one of the greatest crude oil spills in the United States in nearly a decade.

Our teams are carrying out their investigations into what diligently caused the occurrence. “We have not verified a schedule for the re-start, and we will only restart service when it is safe to do so, and with the agreement of the regulator,” TC stated in a statement that was uploaded to its website.

The operator of the pipeline stated that they have more than 250 people working on the leak, including environmental specialists who are contracted by a third party. They also stated that they are continuously monitoring the air quality, and as of right now, there are no indications of any adverse effects on public health or safety.

According to TC, crews are also getting ready for the rain that is expected to start on Monday. The Keystone line, which has a capacity of 622,000 barrels per day, is an essential conduit for transporting heavy Canadian crude from Alberta to refineries in the Midwest and on the Gulf Coast of the United States.

The inability to transport Canadian crude to the storage hub in the United States located in Cushing, Oklahoma, as well as to the Gulf of Mexico, where it is refined and shipped out, will be hampered by the closing of the Keystone XL pipeline.
