Nichelle Nichols, who featured Lt. Nyota Uhura in the original Star Trek TV series and in several of the franchise’s films, has died at the age of 69. Who is still alive from The Original Star Trek?

In a statement posted on his mother’s website on July 31, Kyle Johnson wrote: “Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural death and passed away. She was a wonderful woman and a wonderful mother.”

Her light, on the other hand, will be there for us and following generations to appreciate, learn from, and be inspired by, just like the newly discovered ancient galaxies. For all of us, she is a great example of how to live our own lives well.”

“I shall have more to say about the pioneering, incomparable Nichelle Nichols, who shared our bridge as Lieutenant Uhura of the USS Enterprise, and who passed away today at age 89,” he tweeted after learning of Nichols’ passing. Nichols and Nichols were both active on social media. My dearest buddy, my heart is heavy today, and my eyes shine like the stars you now rest amid.” He went on to say, “We lived long and prospered as a family.”
