Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith, surprised his old neighbors at 1325 Commonwealth Ave. on a Wednesday night. Several buildings in the area illuminated Aerosmith-themed projections in the hours leading up to Thursday night’s Fenway Park concert. However, no one was anticipating the presence of the 74-year-old musician.
A representative for Aerosmith informed The Boston Globe that after the band finished rehearsing for their 50th-anniversary tour, Tyler went to see his old building. The musician drew an immense crowd, reportedly taking photos and chatting with locals.
At 1325 Commonwealth Ave., the band’s founding five members — Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer, and Tom Hamilton — lived in the second-floor “Aerosmith Apartment” in the 1970s. Supposedly, Tyler has it on good authority that the band cut their smash song “Dream On” in the building’s cellar.

Multiple rock and roll tours stop by this venue often. The building’s main door is adorned with a plaque from the city of Boston that reads, “It was here ‘The Bad Boys of Boston’ began their spectacular career.”
The band last played at the venue in 2012, when they gave a free concert to promote their album “Music From Another Dimension!” After being welcomed by Tom Brady, Jerod Mayo, Robert Kraft, and Jonathan Kraft of the New England Patriots, the band rode in duck boats.
Even though Tyler’s unexpected appearance on Wednesday night was on a smaller scale, locals were thrilled to finally get a glimpse of him before the band’s twice-postponed Fenway gig. Sunday night in Maine represented Aerosmith’s first performance before the epidemic and Tyler’s first live performance since his July rehab stint.
