Southeast Michigan Power Outages: DTE Plans To Restore 90% Of Customers By Friday Night

According to DTE Energy, by Friday evening, 90 percent of the company’s customers should have electricity. The utility provider estimated that between 98 and 99 percent of its customers would have power restored by the end of the day on Sunday.

According to DTE, personnel were able to restore power to around 150,000 customers on Thursday and plan to do the same for 200,000 customers on Friday. Over 4,200 employees are now working outside for the electric firm.

As of Friday afternoon at 4:15 p.m., more than 458,000 people in Southeast Michigan continue to be without power as a result of an ice storm that occurred on Wednesday. The company estimates that approximately 79% of its total customers currently have power, and it is anticipated that this percentage will continue to climb until the day’s end.

The DTE Outage Map has begun being updated with estimated times of restoration for certain affected locations. The only information that was available up until Friday afternoon was that the business planned to begin the restoration process on Sunday evening.

The ice storm that hit Metro Detroit on Wednesday brought with it some conditions that had not been seen before. The precipitation that fell across the region did so at temperatures that were just right for it to freeze to surfaces.

Due to the additional weight that ice can bring to tree limbs and electrical lines, the hazard made conditions particularly hazardous. As a result, more than 3,000 were brought down. DTE spent the majority of Thursday working to restore those power lines in order to lessen the risk to public safety.

According to DTE, the ice storm that hit Michigan resulted in a much higher number of power outages than those that occurred in neighboring states that were also impacted by cold weather. DTE also intends to repair any fallen lines on Friday of this week. Around 3,200 wires were brought down.
