Four people were killed early Sunday morning in what has been called an “active shooting” by Florida Sheriff Grady Judd. A former Marine started the shooting.
The incident occurred outside Lakeland, Florida, while the heavily armed suspect was dressed in camouflage clothing and a bulletproof vest.
The former Marine, identified as Brian Riley, 33, caused the heavy shooting by confronting law enforcement before turning himself into the authorities.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has said the shooting that has left aftermath worsened when the former Marine tried to take a gun from an officer at a hospital.
All that is known so far is that this man has killed four people, including a child, and then attempted to kill the police officers who confronted him before deciding to surrender.
What is Known About the Shooting
Four people were the fatal victims of this shooting, and a girl was injured. This was the balance after identifying a 3-month-old baby, the mother of the 33-year-old baby, a 40-year-old man inside a house.
While in a second house on the same property, the body of the baby’s grandmother, who was 62 years old, was also found. Even Diogi, the family dog, was also fatally shot, Judd added.
The Polk County Sheriff has also reported that an 11-year-old girl who was shot several times was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital to undergo surgery and that her recovery is expected for now.

What is Known About the Former Marine
Who so far is the only suspect in the shooting that has left four people dead, an injured minor, has been identified as Brian Riley, 33 years old. The former marine lives in Brandon, Florida, about 20 miles from where the event occurred.
He received treatment for the injuries sustained during his arrest and has been released. He is currently in the custody of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Judd has also reported during a conference that according to the investigations they have advanced, there is no connection between the suspect and those who were his victims.
I affirm that all they know is that: “we had a madman with many weapons who shot and killed innocent people.” Judd described details of what he has described as a very difficult situation that began on Saturday night with two confrontations where they struck dozens of bullets and what ends with the toll of victims that we already know.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has also said they are not dealing with a traditional criminal. Suspect Brian Riley was honorably discharged after serving four years in the Marine Corps, three years in the reserve, and serving as a designated sniper in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was also a security employee for ESS Global Corp, has no criminal record, and is currently facing a mental health crisis diagnosed as PTSD.
