Sherlock Holmes Plot
Irene Adler paid Dr. Hoffmanstahl for conveying a letter in 1891 by conveying a present to him. Sherlock Holmes keeps the explosives from exploding when Hoffmanstahl opens the crate. The in the interim, Adler and Hoffmanstahl escape, leaving Holmes with the letter. Hoffmanstahl is seen as killed by Holmes later.
