Many people consider Charles Dickens to be one of the greatest writers of all time. His works have gained a lot of clout over time. Both Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities come to mind. These are only two of Dickens’ many enduring classics, but he wrote extensively across genres and decades and had a gift for capturing stories with universal appeal. Scrooge A Christmas Carol story
The Victorian era in London, England formed the backdrop for Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. On Christmas Eve, the story’s events unfolded at Ebenezer Scrooge’s house (the day before Christmas).
The novel takes place in the Victorian era, an era that Charles Dickens heavily criticized in his writing. The wealthy had the latest conveniences, like gas lighting and railroads, and lived very lavishly as a result. In contrast, most city dwellers of the period, including London, were severely destitute and battled to make ends meet on the city’s freezing streets. Most working people were on the verge of hunger and received little attention from affluent and influential people like Scrooge.
One of the locations in “A Christmas Carol” is the Cratchit family’s house. The Cratchet family’s home is much smaller and less fancy than Scrooge’s, but it has a lot more love, laughter, and happiness in it.

Olivia Colman (the Past), Jessie Buckley (Isabel Fezziwig), Johnny Flynn (Bob Cratchit), Fra Fee (Harry Huffam), Giles Terera (Tom Jenkins), Trevor Dion Nicholas (the Present), James Cosmo (Mr. Fezziwig), and Jonathan Pryce (Jacob Marley) will join Evans in providing their voices. At the same time, the film will feature new arrangements of songs written by the late Oscar and Grammy winner Leslie Bricusse (Doctor Dolittle, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Superman, Home Alone).
Stephen Donnelly, the film’s director, remarked that the task of adapting the “beloved and often-told narrative” was “a fascinating challenge.” Anyone familiar with A Christmas Carol should find what they’re looking for in this adaptation, albeit presented uniquely. Those already familiar with the story will be kept on the edge of their seats by a slew of hallucinogenic, time-traveling, and musical twists, while those new to the classic tale will recognize Dickens’s voice and style. Netflix hasn’t said yet when the movie will be made available to the public. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol is a holiday classic, so it makes sense that the streaming service would debut the film around the winter holidays.
At last month’s Annecy International Film Festival, Netflix presented a massive European animation schedule, including a version of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol titled Scrooge. The Ember, written and directed by Klaus’s Sergio Pablos, and an adaption of Richard Curtis’ That Christmas round out the slate. The Producers, Ralph Kamp p.g.a., Leslie Bricusse, and Andrew Pearce, along with Co-Producers Rebecca Kamp and Gareth Kamp, helmed the film adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, titled Scrooge: A Christmas Carol. Jeremy Holland-Smith composed the score and arranged and produced the songs written by Academy Award® and Grammy Award® winner Leslie Bricusse, OBE.
