Robin McGraw has personal experience to attest to the fact that the brows do outline the face. The best-selling author who has been married to talk show host, Dr Phil McGraw, for almost 30 years, recently revealed on her podcast I’ve Got a Secret! with Robin McGraw that it was an eyebrow transplant that gave her a new look a few years ago that made headlines. The author and talk show host Dr Phil McGraw has been married for nearly 30 years.
During the show on Wednesday, McGraw, who is 66 years old, shared with her audience that “it brought my entire face into proportion” (hair restoration specialist Dr Marc Dauer and celebrity hairstylist Lee Rittiner). “And I believe that it has significantly altered my appearance.”

In June of 2011, Dauer was the surgeon who conducted the procedure on McGraw. He began by cutting away a little portion of her scalp, and then extracted the patient’s hair follicles to graft them onto her eyebrows. During the podcast, he detailed how the seemingly insignificant process, which can now be carried out with the use of a technique known as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), which is not invasive actually produces significant outcomes.
“The eyebrows are one of the most distinguishing features of the face… They play such an important role in defining the contours of your face”, the medical professional from Los Angeles commented. “If they start too far over or if they’re just missing in different spots, it affects your whole look,” she said. “It just makes a difference.”
Before undergoing the transplant, McGraw admitted that she was so self-conscious about her thin, over-plucked brows that she opted to cover them up by cutting bangs into her hair. The author shared with Dauer on the most recent episode of their podcast that she let her bangs grow out and was “very delighted” she did so. “Because of you and my eyebrow transplant,” she explained. “I’ve always had eyebrows that I’m really happy with,” I said.
According to Dauer’s website, the latest version of his eyebrow transplant procedure (FUE) usually involves placing between 250 to 400 hairs per eyebrow and takes six to eight hours to perform.
“For seven days after the eyebrow transplant surgery there will be tiny scabs which appear like dots of sand on the skin, and then these fall off, leaving the eyebrow looking pretty much like it did before the surgery,” the website state. “There is also a slight pinkness in the transplanted skin that persists for four to twelve weeks after the procedure depending on how quickly the patient heals.”
Most patients will also experience swelling and bruising around the eyes for three to five days, and should not use an eyebrow pencil for three weeks after the procedure. According to his website, about half of Dauer’s patients schedule a second procedure eight to twelve months after the first one for “greater density.”
